■Hiroshi:
Hello. You must be Mike.
こんにちは。マイクさんですね。

■Mike:
Oh, hi, Hiro. Nice to meet you.
やあ、こんにちは、ヒロ。お目にかかれて嬉しいよ。
Thank you very much for picking me up today.
今日は、迎えに来てくれて、どうもありがとう。
This is my first time in Japan.
日本に来るのは、これが初めてなんだ。
I’m glad that you are here with me.
君が、一緒にここにいてくれて、よかったよ。

■Hiroshi:
You are welcome.
どういたしまして。
You must be tired after the long flight.
長いフライトでお疲れでしょう。
It’s three thirty now.
今、午後3時半です。
Would you like to go to your hotel straight or our Tokyo office?
このままホテルにチェックインなさいますか？それとも、東京支社へ行かれますか？

■Mike:
I think I’ll go to the office and say hello to people.
支社へ行って、みんなにご挨拶させてもらうよ。
Once I get to my hotel, I probably feel too lazy to go out.
1回ホテルに着いてしまうと、面倒くさくなってしまいそうだからね。

■Hiroshi:
OK. I understand.
はい。わかりました。
I parked my car in the parking lot.
車を駐車場にとめてあります。
Shall we go?
行きましょうか？

■Mike:
Sure. Thanks a lot.
うん。どうもありがとう。

ヒロシは、車にマイクを乗せ、東京支社に向かっています。

■Mike:
How long will it take from here to Tokyo?
ここから東京まで、どれくらいかかるの？

■Hiroshi:
Our office is in Shinbashi in Tokyo, so it’ll take about one hour, I think.
うちのオフィスは新橋ですから、だいたい1時間くらいかかります。

■Mike:
Oh, I didn’t know that Tokyo is that far from here.
へえ、東京からここまで、そんなに遠いとは、知らなかったよ。
I am very lucky that you are driving for me.
ぼくは、君が運転してくれて、とてもラッキーだな。
For future reference, can I ask you the best way to get to Tokyo from Narita airport?
参考のために聞いておきたいんだけど、成田空港から東京まで、一番いい行き方は、どんな方法なのかな？

■Hiroshi:
Well, there are lots of ways.
ええと、いろいろあるんですけど。
The easiest way is to get on the Narita Express to Tokyo, I think.
一番簡単なのは、東京まで、成田エクスプレスに乗る方法です。
Buy the ticket at the counter near the airport arrival area and go down to the train station to get on the Narita Express.
到着エリア近くのカウンターで切符を買って、地下の駅に降りて、成田エクスプレスに乗ります。
At Tokyo station, change the trains to the Yamanote Line and get off at Shinbashi station. Our office is just a short walk from there.
東京駅で、山手線という電車に乗り換えて、新橋駅で降りてください。うちのオフィスは、新橋駅から歩いてすぐですから。

■Mike:
OK. Maybe I can try that next time.
オーケー。たぶん、次はそうしてみるよ。
Well, I know that this is my business trip, but I feel very excited.
う～ん、今回は、出張だって事はわかってるんだけど、とてもわくわくするよ。
Have you ever been to the States, Hiro?
ヒロ、君は、アメリカに行ったことはある？

■Hiroshi:
I have been to only Hawaii once.
1回だけ、ハワイには、行ったことがあります。
I want to go to Los Angeles and New York sometime in the future.
いつか、ロサンゼルスとニューヨークに行きたいですね。

■Mike:
Well, I will look after you, when you come to the States.
ああ、君がアメリカに来たら、ぼくがお世話してあげるよ。

■Hiroshi:
Thank you very much.
ありがとうございます。

■Mike:
In fact, there will be our international conference in Los Angeles next year.
実はね、来年、ロサンゼルスで、我が社の国際会議があるんだ。
I was very pleased with your proposal of selling the Japanese sweets at our coffee shops in Japan.
ぼくはね、君の日本店舗での和菓子販売についての提案を、とても気に入ったんだよ。
I was thinking that maybe you can come to the conference with Chris.
クリスと一緒に、君も、その会議に来てくれたら、と思っていたんだ。
What do you think about it?

■Hiroshi:
Wow, that’s really wonderful!
わあ、本当に素晴らしいです！
